Stream Bridge Stream Bridge

Blackmagic SDI over the internet

Stream Bridge moves professional video between locations with the flexibility of software - capture from any Blackmagic Desktop Video source, capture card, HDMI or SDI, transport it over a low-latency internet route, and deliver NDI, OMT or selected SDI outputs at the receiving site.

Signal Flow

4 Simple Steps

  1. Connect your source

Plug in any DeckLink input: cameras, vision mixers, routers or replay outputs.

  2. Pair both ends

Install Stream Bridge at each site and pair each device with its connection key.

  3. Bridge the stream

Pick the source and bridge it to the receiving device. No ports, VPN or network admin.

  4. Output at the far end

It comes out at the remote site as NDI, OMT or DeckLink SDI, ready to use.

How it works

Stream Bridge connects Blackmagic equipment across sites without locking the production into a fixed hardware codec path. The sending location uses a compatible input, while the receiving location chooses the output that fits its switcher, router, monitor or software.

NDI and OMT outputs can be named independently for every bridge. Compatible DeckLink ports can also be assigned per feed, with separate bridges driving different physical outputs on the same receiving device.

The internet route is established automatically through a direct-first connection, with cloud relay available for restrictive networks. There's no inbound port-forwarding workflow for either site.

Live port checks identify DeckLink outputs already in use, while bridge status and device telemetry make the route visible to operators. Connection and source recovery run in the background when a temporary interruption happens.

Technical Breakdown

What operators need to know about inputs, audio channels, device performance, bandwidth, routing, and control.

Supported Sources

Any Blackmagic Desktop Video input the paired device can see.

Explore details

Stream Bridge captures video from anything running through compatible Blackmagic hardware and Blackmagic Desktop Video - capture cards, HDMI and SDI are all supported, covering cameras, vision mixers, routers and replay outputs.

The source needs to stay active and reachable by the paired device. Discovery can take around 30 seconds, and local-sources-only filtering helps simplify busy networks.

Audio

Up to 16 embedded audio channels come through with the picture.

Explore details

Stream Bridge can capture up to 16 audio channels embedded in the source, delivered as individually controllable tracks at the destination.

Viewer links can include additional audio sources with independent level controls. Audio Return and Group Audio can be switched on separately when the remote person needs to speak back.

Performance

NVENC where available, CPU as the fallback.

Explore details

Encoding can run on NVIDIA NVENC or the CPU. NVENC generally gives the lowest latency and CPU use; CPU mode is useful on systems without compatible hardware or where GPU capacity is already committed.

Default limits are four simultaneous GPU encodes and two CPU encodes per device. Use the meters to raise those cautiously and spot overload before it becomes dropped frames.

Viewer Quality & Latency

Live bitrate control, typically under 500ms.

Explore details

Per-port availability checks identify outputs already held by another application, and separate bridges can use different ports at the same time. Every browser viewer and receiving-device bridge is its own connection - plan sender upload for the bitrate multiplied by the number of simultaneous routes.

Bitrate changes apply live. A practical starting point is 3-5Mbps for most 1080p30 feeds and 5-10Mbps for high-motion or 60fps content, depending on the weakest connection in the path.

Networking

Direct connection first, cloud relay when that's blocked.

Explore details

No VPN or inbound port forwarding is required. Stream Bridge uses ICE to find a workable path between the sending device and each receiver, preferring a direct connection.

If strict NAT or firewall rules prevent that, the session uses our TURN network instead. It improves reachability, but the extra hop can add latency, so wired internet and sensible bitrate headroom still matter for production-critical feeds.

Security & Customisation

Separate links, passwords and named outputs per audience.

Explore details

Viewer links can use readable custom URLs, optional passwords and player customisation, so a client, director, operator and internal team can each receive different controls from the same stream.

Treat device connection keys and viewer links as credentials. Keep connection keys private, password sensitive feeds, and remove links or bridges once an audience no longer needs access.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from source discovery through to the receiving viewer or production device.

Routing & setup

Anything running through compatible Blackmagic hardware and Blackmagic Desktop Video - capture cards, HDMI and SDI all work, not just SDI. Make sure discovery is switched on, the runtime is installed, and the input isn't locked elsewhere, then create a stream and pick your destination.

As a named NDI or OMT source on the receiving device, and where compatible Blackmagic hardware and Card Output are enabled, it can also be assigned to selected SDI ports.

Many connections operate below 500ms end to end. Fibre-to-fibre direct routes with NVENC can be faster; distance, Wi-Fi, congestion, CPU encoding or TURN relay can all increase delay.

Bandwidth & reliability

Allow at least your configured bitrate for every simultaneous viewer or bridge route, plus headroom. Three independent 5Mbps connections need roughly 15Mbps of stable upload before overhead.

Yes, up to 16 channels, delivered as individually controllable tracks. Additional audio sources can be exposed separately, and return communication is set per viewer link.

Stream Bridge falls back to its TURN relay network automatically. If a source or receiving device goes offline, configured bridges wait and reconnect once it's back.
