Stream Bridge Stream Bridge

Send OMT over WAN

Stream Bridge connects OMT productions across separate sites without trying to carry local discovery over the WAN. It transports the chosen feed over a low-latency connection and publishes it at the destination as a local OMT or NDI source.

Signal Flow

4 Simple Steps

  1. Pick an OMT source

Any OMT source on your network: OBS or other OMT production sources.

  2. Pair both ends

Install Stream Bridge at each site and pair each device with its connection key.

  3. Bridge the stream

Pick the source and bridge it to the receiving device. No ports, VPN or network admin.

  4. Use it at the far end

It appears on the receiving machine as a named OMT or NDI source, or on SDI.

How it works

OMT stays doing what it does best on each local network, while Stream Bridge provides the path between sites. Install the desktop app at both ends, pair each device, and select the OMT source you want to send.

Every bridge can be named and routed independently - the receiving device can publish OMT, NDI or compatible SDI outputs, so the same platform connects software production, network video and baseband equipment.

The two sites don't need a shared VPN or manually forwarded ports. We prefer a direct connection, with cloud relay available automatically for restrictive or asymmetric networks.

Bridge status, source state and device performance stay visible from the dashboard. Automatic reconnection and recovery help the remote OMT source return cleanly after a temporary loss of signal.

Technical Breakdown

Technical detail on the source, audio path, encoding load, picture quality, internet route, and viewer controls.

Supported Sources

OMT sources on the paired device.

Explore details

Stream Bridge works with OMT audio and video sources the paired device can see - OBS OMT outputs and most other OMT-compatible systems on the local production network.

The source needs to stay active and reachable. Discovery can take around 30 seconds, and local-sources-only filtering helps simplify busy networks.

Audio

Up to 16 channels come through with the source.

Explore details

Stream Bridge can capture up to 16 audio channels from an OMT source, delivered as individually controllable tracks at the destination.

Viewer links can include additional audio sources with independent level controls. Audio Return and Group Audio can be switched on separately when the remote person needs to speak back to the production.

Performance

NVENC where available, CPU as the fallback.

Explore details

Encoding can run on NVIDIA NVENC or the CPU. NVENC generally gives the lowest latency and CPU use; CPU mode is useful on systems without compatible hardware or where GPU capacity is already committed.

Default limits are four simultaneous GPU encodes and two CPU encodes per device. Use the meters to raise those cautiously and spot overload before it becomes dropped frames.

Viewer Quality & Latency

Live bitrate control, typically under 500ms.

Explore details

Bridge status shows whether the route is connected, connecting, pending, or waiting for the source. Every browser viewer and receiving-device bridge is its own connection - plan sender upload for the bitrate multiplied by the number of simultaneous routes.

Bitrate changes apply live. A practical starting point is 3-5Mbps for most 1080p30 feeds and 5-10Mbps for high-motion or 60fps content, depending on the weakest connection in the path.

Networking

Direct connection first, cloud relay when that's blocked.

Explore details

No VPN or inbound port forwarding is required. Stream Bridge uses ICE to find a workable path between the sending device and each receiver, preferring a direct connection.

If strict NAT or firewall rules prevent that, the session uses our TURN network instead. It improves reachability, but the extra hop can add latency, so wired internet and sensible bitrate headroom still matter for production-critical feeds.

Security & Customisation

Separate links, passwords and named outputs per audience.

Explore details

Viewer links can use readable custom URLs, optional passwords and player customisation, so a client, director, operator and internal team can each receive different controls from the same stream.

Treat device connection keys and viewer links as credentials. Keep connection keys private, password sensitive feeds, and remove links or bridges once an audience no longer needs access.

Frequently Asked Questions

What production teams need to know before configuring this source, route, and destination.

Routing & setup

A paired desktop device with OMT discovery switched on and the source available to the app. Create a stream from the dashboard, then pick a viewer or Bridge Sharing destination.

The receiving device can publish a named NDI or OMT source, and where compatible Blackmagic hardware and Card Output are enabled, it can also be assigned to selected SDI ports.

Many connections operate below 500ms end to end. Fibre-to-fibre direct routes with NVENC can be faster; distance, Wi-Fi, congestion, CPU encoding or TURN relay can all increase delay.

Bandwidth & reliability

Allow at least your configured bitrate for every simultaneous viewer or bridge route, plus headroom. Three independent 5Mbps connections need roughly 15Mbps of stable upload before overhead.

Up to 16, delivered as individually controllable tracks. Additional audio sources can be exposed separately, and return communication is set per viewer link.

Stream Bridge falls back to its TURN relay network automatically. If a source or receiving device goes offline, configured bridges wait and reconnect once it's back.
